Letter to the editor: uncover the covered up

Letter To the Editor:

Citizens of Dodge County. I have done my best to uncover the covered up. I have spent hours on the phone, at the computer and talking to people to get information out to the public that was previously unknown to most. I have done this, because it was the right thing to do. I once again must state that I am supporting Jim Jensen for Dodge County Sheriff.

I have had the pleasure over the past few months of getting to know him much better. He has taught me so much about patience, perserverance, and tolerance. About turning the other cheek when people start the nastiest of lies, shaking it off, and being content with the truth. He has showed courage and commitment to the people of Dodge County for over 31 years. He is the best man for Sheriff.

This election is so much bigger than the past, and I am speaking about the national level. Our country is at a major cross roads. We need leaders that have strong dedication to family values and morals. If they can’t even be faithful to their own family, how can they  be faithful to yours or mine. Thank you to everyone who has voiced their opinions and concerns. You are what makes America great. Remember to VOTE on Nov 2nd. Its the AMERICAN thing to do.

  1. I agree that Jensen has served this community well for a number of years. I agree that the sheriff's office is currently going through a rough time as a result of poor choices made by two individuals. I also agree that the voting public has the right to know what took place. However, I have heard Jensen speak with several people in the community, I have reviewed Jensen's webpage, and I have spoken with various people in the community and it seems sad that Jensen is only repeating the same "bring integrity back" line.

Don't get me wrong integrity is important for a sheriff to have but I question a candidate that has no plan for the future of the department other than kicking out Trihey. So, what is Jensen's plan? I shouldn't have to ask this question Jensen should be telling us his good points more than relaying solely on Trihey's negative points.

  2. I have actually gotten a kick out of this election! It is almost comical to me that Jenson's main campaign involves others doing the "dirty work". He knows what is going on and is just sitting back to enjoy the show! Somebody handed out the aligations against Trihey at Marigolds Days with the approval of the complaintant. I understand that this is very political. However, if Jenson is such a family man with morals and values, it is hard for me to understand why he would drag Trihey's family into it. Sometimes, 'Its just personal" should matter. What Trihey did was wrong. We all know it. But is it my business? NO! I don't care what he does with his personal life any more than I care what Lindsey Lohan does.

What should matter is what Trihey has done for our county. He was asked to be Sherriff by Thompson. There has never been a complaint again Trihey other than this ONE personal issue, made public by people who are campaining for Jenson. Jenson, on the other hand, has been sitting behind a desk for years. He has not been on patrol for years, he has been on medical leave, he has been waiting to retire, he has been using weeks of his vacation time to campaign. I agree with the above posting, what in the world are Jenson's points? Or is he too busy with pointing out the negative to care about the future of Dodge?

  3. I have seen and worked with both Jensen and Trihey. I would question why Trihey has moved up through the ranks and been promoted more than once, and why Jensen has remained only a patrol deputy for 31 years. In the Sheriff's office you have to really give good reason to not advance in your job for 31 years. If you show up and do the minimum every day just the MINIMUM you are still going to advance. If you hide behind union rules and arbitration and skate by with less than expected you may keep your job (you should not) but you won’t be advanced. Every job in every occupation has the ability to advance and you have to earn it. Jensen has not earned it. I am also confused by the Integrity part of Jensen's campaign as he seems to have none or he would step up and tell his campaign staff to stop the bashing and negativity and show who is more qualified. (maybe he is scared that people will actually look into the fact he is not qualified) Last in his recent letter in the Blooming Prairie Jensen himself admits he has no plan, no budget and NO IDEA what the Sheriff's job is as he is trying to win and election and will learn the rest later. I want someone that will hit the ground running and not have to learn as he works. (waste of money) Being a Sheriff is not for someone that needs on the job training.

  4. All three comments are obviously Triheys supporters. First of all, if Triheys actions are personal, then why did they happen when he and the complaintant were on the job? In the squad car, in the courthouse? Also, Investigator Gundersons actions were not worth disciplining? he admitted to having sex with informants, period! He should be let go! But Trihey's great leadership skills says he did not do anything wrong? As far as his family, Jim Trihey did not think about exposing his family. Why should anyone else. In fact this act for him is a repeat! If it was personal, then he should have left it after hours, not why he was getting paid or she was getting paid. Also, using the County's computers to e-mail her these nasty messages? Not very smart. Dodge county tax payers should not be paying for somebodies sex life period! Also, it is obvious why Jensen has not been promoted the last two sheriff's. They knew he would run against them for their position. As far as the Sheriff who promoted Thompson and Trihey, He has a Jim Jensen sign in HIS yard! What does that tell you about what he thinks about his decision to promote them two! You also complain about dirty campaigining? Do you think that running around and telling everyone that Trihey is an outstanding individual is not dirty? It is flat out LYING! The only thing dirty is Jim Trihey. He acts one way in the public eye, but behaves differently behind the scenes! Jensen has spoken alot about his vision for the future of the dept. But Trihey and his supporters would not have known this since they will not show up at a public forum and discuss the issues. Also, if Trihey is such a great Sheriff, why do most of the men he leads, support his competitor? This campaign is dirty, but only because Jim Trihey allowed it to be. STOP lying about his personal life! This was happening on county time! I for one ask the public this? Would you rather have a CLEAN lie, OR the dirty TRUTH. Cause this dirt, is gonna cost the TAX payers alot more than this sheriff could ever save us in 20 years!

  5. Maybe you are correct.... maybe Jensen is not the best candidate for sheriff. However, there is a ton of evidence against, Trihey and Gunderson. Trihey was fully aware of Gundersons actions, not just against the one individual who has filed a lawsuit, but also against other women. How either of them still have jobs and neither of them have criminal charges is beyond me! Jensen has never been a suspect of sexual misconduct, that should be enough right there to keep Trihey out of office. They took an oath to protect and serve. From a very young age we are all taught if ever in trouble or in need of help, go to a police officer. Never, should a woman who is gripped by an awful and grueling addiction and at her weakest and most vulnerable state be manipulated by an officer to obtain sexual pleasure. And when his boss, Trihey, found out that this happened, and there was a full admission, and an apology, Trihey should have took appropriate steps to ensure this would not happen again! Oh, but wait, Trihey would not suspend or fire someone for something he himself is guilty of! Anyone who has a heart would not even consider Trihey as a candidate for sheriff!

  6. I personally don't feel that Jensen's only pointing out all the negatives, he's proving a point that Trihey shouldn't be in office because of his unproper behavior himself and other members of his force have shown to the public. Actions made by the people whom are supposedly a role model for kids in the community are wrong. Put yourself in these victims shoes and think about how its affected them and their families. Instead of saying you don't wanna hear about it is like allowing a preditor into your home and around your children and family and turning your cheek and acting like they are not hurting anybody. I realize that Jensen needs to figure out a plan for the future but its kind of hard when all hes asked about is what is going on with Trihey. I feel bad for the families of the accused but it comes with the territory. Someone whose been on the force for 31yrs knows what is going on and what needs to be done, granted he needs to write a plan or let it all be known but atleast hes willing to step up, i don't see anyone else stepping up and trying to take over. If Jensen didn't care about Dodge County he wouldn't be running i'm sure. I feel its unfair to bash Jensen and for the public to take Trihey's side at all. Granted the facts are not publicly know but they have acknowledged their wrong doings and proves they are not qualified for the jobs they posses. To take advantage of the weak and unstable is unfair, the cops run into those kinds of people every day, i can only imagine how many people are still out there keeping their mouths shut due to not wanting the negativity that comes with it, wether its dodge county or some other in this state or another. Theres alot of people out there who don't properly do their job so lets put someone in office who will take ideas and we can trust. I feel for the victims of this lawsuit and their families more then i feel sorry for Trihey or anyone else involved.

  7. Trihey is an Incumbent. Vote them all out. If any government official wants to screw co workers after hours OK but not on time my taxes are paying for.If hes thinking about his family hes using the wrong head!

I agree that out of the two candidates Jensen has more moral standards/ integrity. I'm sure sense Nord and Jensen are close that hopefully Jensen will be able to answer these few Non -Trihey related questions:

    1) Will you fire Gunderson?
    2) Who will be your Chief Deputy?
    3) Will you put more cops on the street?
    4) Will you negotiate more time in Claremont for deputies to patrol? (God knows that town needs it/ My sister is moving out of there b/c it's so bad)
    5) How will you handle a budget during your time in office?

I will probably vote for Jensen (b/c of Trihey's problems) but I want a sheriff with a plan not one that will tread water.

I kind of agree with the above, I will be voting for Jensen but it would put alot of people at ease if he told people his future plan. I guess if I lived in Claremont I would want those questions answered to. Maybe you should move out to if it's getting that bad.

  11. First, I want to say I'm so proud of the women who are standing up for themselves. I would like to know also..... Jensen, will Gunderson be held accountable for what he has done to these girls? Why do you feel he has'nt been fired?

  12. I was at the sheriff's forum at triton high school on monday night. And of course Jim Trihey didnt show up. But Jim Jensen did and he explained what his plans were. And he was open to any questions. And they sounded pretty good to me. And I will bet if you want your questions answered . Go talk to him he seem's to be the best man for the position.

  13. I like the letters to the editor this week, Trihey must have gotten all his friends together for a last ditch effort. Ann Triheys was the best. Her husband was caught having an affair, has admitted to it, have evidence that he can't deny and yet she defends him.Larry Dobsons reply in the editorial couldn't have been better, the citizens of Dodge County deserve to know the truth. Its sad, Trihey and Gundersons corrupt behaviors have left victims whose lifes will never be the same, no amount of money is ever going to change things back to what it once was. The ones who are the biggest victims , are the children of all parties involved.

  14. I am seeing a trend here. I do support Trihey because I do have facts and details of the incident and I affraid that if we have Jensen as Sheriff he will continue to do what he has done for 31 years "NOTHING" If you want to spread the kind of Crap that you have been putting on here. I admit I am a TRIHEY supporter but not for any reason than I look at the facts not the rumors. I look at the qualifications not the fact that one person running for Sheriff is most qualified to be a Buy Scout leader NOT A SHERIFF and seeing his history as a cop I am not sure I would want to live in a town that Jensen Patrols. He claims Integrety but that would be someone that stands up and tells his flunkies to Stand Down and stop the bashing. Go with the Facts. NO EVIDENCE, NO WRONG DOING, NO CHARGES and HIGHLY QUALIFIED. Vote Trihey not because of this letter but because you research the Facts not rumors. DO NOT LET DODGE COUNTY DOWN. VOtE WITH THE FACT'S PLEASE.
I am voting Trihey for Sheriff on November 2nd.

  16. If you want to get an accurate idea of who is the best candidate to move forward as Sheriff and run the department, ask a Dodge County Deputy. They are the ones that have had to work thru all these problems this year. If he/she believes Trihey is the best candidate he/she should come right out and say it without hesitation. If he/she is hesitant or simply answers "Vote for Jim" without clarifying which Jim, well then you have your answer too. If they aren't openly supporting the incumbent, you know there's a problem!

    Shame on you Ann Trihey!

How do you know the allegations are false? Because you believe your husband? Yes an affair took place but that is NOT ALL that went on.

November 8, 2009 I received a threatening phone call from you. You also mentioned my children in that phone call and that is where I draw the line. Therefore a report was made and this came out. That same night you asked a deputy "What is she going to do about her job". That is when I knew I needed an attorney. And thus began retaliation against me on November 10, 2009 and has been on going.

I have been employed at DCSO for almost nine years and have never made any advances to anyone. You mention you have other employees telling you these opinions. Would they be the same employees also listed on my complaint and who have been campaigning for your husband on county time?

Maybe you Ann, would like to tell everyone how the two of you got together. The only woman scorned is you. Ever hear the saying what goes around comes around?

The citizens of dodge county deserve to know what is going on in the sheriff's office. They would be shocked to know all the wrong doing and unprofessional behavior.

I have never claimed to be a "Victim". The victims in all this would be my husband and best friend of over 14 years I lost and my children. I am truely sorry for the pain I have caused my family.

You know when this whole campaign started I promised myself (as did most deputies) to not be a political tool for either side and stay out of the circus. To the credit of both Jensen and Trihey, I nor any other deputy has been asked to openly support either party. But DO NOT take our silence as a political tool to benefit one side or the other. We have alot of respectable deputies working within this department. Those same deputies are just as torn on the sheriff subject as the voting public. Some deputies support Trihey, some Jensen, some are refusing to vote either way. We are here to serve the community and will continue to do so regardless of who sits in the sheriff seat.

So Vote Trihey, Vote Jensen, Write in someone. The important thing is to make an educated personal choice. Understand that those within the sheriff's office will make the same personal choice you will. Regardless of the outcome of the election the deputies are here to serve Dodge County. Please vote in November.

  19. I am very concerned for all the Trihey supporters in our county. I am a mother of 3 and have always taught them to do the right things and always respect your authorites. Police people are good people and will always help you and do the right thing. But when I see the Sheirff Jim Trihey doing the things I teach my children is wrong, what are we supporting? Do we want the next generation of children to grow up and do the same thing as him? I say NO! I feel very sorry for all the families involved, and those kids are learning that this action is OK and its not. And for the comment about Jim Jensens Flunkies, I graduted from high school and collage and have helped compain for Jensen. So I guess you talking about bashing who is bashing now. You should think before you type. Jim Jensen for Sheirff NOV.2nd.

  21. Jim Jensen has worked for Dodge County for 31 years and let me tell you one thing: he has done many good things for the community. Some people say that he has done nothing in his 31 years, but let me correct you on that. He was picked to start the DARE program for the county and then implemented the School Resource Officer program in the Triton, K-M, and Hayfield schools. He was out in the public and almost everyone knew him.
On the contrary, if you asked many today who the sheriff of Dodge County is, I bet that over half wouldn’t know who Jim Trihey even is. In my eyes, the sheriff should be out in the public and not hiding behind closed doors like Trihey has done for the last year. They should be accessible to the public and the majority of people would know who they are.
Some questions that the citizens need to ask themselves are these:
Do we need a sheriff who hides behind closed doors and isn’t even known to everyone in the county?
Do we really need a sheriff who has all of these allegations against him and tries to hide them from the public?
Should the sheriff be someone who believes they are above the law and won’t suffer any consequences because of that position?

To me the choice is clear. VOTE JIM JENSEN ON NOVEMBER 2nd !!!!!

  23. In response to Mr.Thomas, I wonder where you got your facts? Perhaps from Jim Trihey? Maybe you should wait until all of his lawsuits go through trial before you bash other people.Lets see how much money the Dodge County tax payers will be forking over to pay his lawsuits. Then we can all see how much Trihey has really saved the county.

  24. Somebody should get that Daniel an education. He must have flunked out of first grade. Or he missed the day they taught spelling! The guy dont sound to bright does he?

  25. People obviously have no idea who to vote for. And if they choose one over the other, they do not have the facts. It is a blind election! Jensen is lazy and Trihey is a cheater. However, who would know that? It's all about who you talk to and what is being said about both.
It's sad that the general public is so fixated on Triehy's personal problems only because "it takes two to tango". I find it hard to believe that Nicole had no part in this. Cheaters cheat until something goes wrong. Both parties made the choice. It just happened to be a bad one.
Jensen has been doing the same job for 31 years. He is clearly in this for political reasons. I wish him the best because he will most likey win the election and need to prove that he understands his position. I am sure he has more to provide Dodge than negative feedback on others. He certainly knows how to delegate his dirty work to others.
Too bad our county doesn't have a better choice. We should all vote but for who?

  26. Not so Personal anymore10/29/2010 9:55 AM

I personally think that Nikole and Trihey are to blame for there wrong doings but Nikole said herself that she is not claiming to be a victim, but when we as tax payers have to start paying for things that should happen in your own home NOT in the court house or county property while you are working thats when we as tax payers should be involved. It's not just there PERSONAL life any more. I personally don't care what goes on after work hours that is not our buisness. I think the choice is clear and think we can save a lot of money on law suits that won't happen with Jim Jensen as Sheriff.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I too think it takes two to tango, but when it is happening on county time, county property and one person is an authority figure than it goes way beyond their personal life. I too was at the forum( the one that Trihey backed out of at his lawyers advice) Jensen started the DARE program at K-M, Hayfield and Triton schools and than went on to implement the School Resource Officer program at these same schools, where he worked with the youth. Dodge County needs a leader who can bring the talents of the sheriffs department together and work as a team. The tax payers of Dodge County deserve to know the truth. Lazy? I don't think so.

  28. I would like to point out one thing after watching all of the letters over the past weeks. I find it funny that so many people have tried and convicted Trihey. I thought that in America we all are innocent until proven guilty. I think it is strange that only one candidate is putting out negative information, is that a way to confuse me as a voter into thinking he is a great guy? I feel it is bad politics. As a Sheriff, Police officer, Trooper or any other Law Enforcement officer I would expect tact, dignity and that many parts of the information they have not to be given to me or anyone else until they have the facts and have proven it. I respect the Badge and Position of both Jensen and Trihey, but think that have both made some questionable choices in the past. BOTH OF THEM. I am going to look at the professional aspects of the job and what each can bring to the job and what each has done to advance in their careers and vote with that. Neither one is without fault and neither one are perfect but they have both taken different tracts in the same profession. Even though they have both made questionable decisions in the past and that has affected the county in a negative way they are the only candidates to vote for. I recommend looking at the candidates job history and vote for that. If you look at both websites and the qualifications they each have it will tell you who is best suited to run the Sheriff’s office. GET OUT AND VOTE Nov 2.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I strongly suggest that the Trihey supporters and the Jensen supporters stop trying to debate this election over blogs and editorials, and just simply reach out to each one of them with the questions and concerns that each and every one of us obviously have. They are both approachable, to some degree. And for the sake of argument, then judge them on your own personal experience in speaking or dealing with them. I do believe Jim Trihey has more administrative experience, but unfortunately some newly acquired skeletons to deal with. Jim Jensen has less administrative experience, but has a 30+ year history of ‘helping’ people during their most difficult times! And I would challenge all of those that speak negatively about either candidate, for those are the people that usually find nothing better to do in the day than to focus on other people’s faults & mistakes, instead of dealing with their own, which we all do have & make. I’ve heard things go back and forth about both candidates for Dodge County Sheriff for quite some time now. Some I’m sure is based on fact, while other could be simply chalked up to ‘dirty politics’. But this is our (dodge county) future here in terms of police protection and community service. We should all want and strive to learn & know as much as we can about the candidates that are running for our elected officials positions, and not take others' words or accusations as the absolute truth.
With that said, for those that claim Jensen is not qualified...I would venture to guess having been on the Sheriff’s Office for over 30 years would just about ‘qualify’ him to know something or another about the job he does. I’ve been around for a little while, and the best advice I ever receive is from the older and wiser crowd, who have ‘been there and done that’. Just ask your Grandma or Grandpa next time you see them....ask them how they’ve seen the world change, how they’ve been in your shoes, and then ask them (like you know you will do at some point or already have) what they would do if they were in your shoes (cause you bet they probably were) in any tough or difficult situation. I’m sure you ask Jensen if he’s been there, done that, he probably has. And I’d be willing to bet he’s seen how our community has grown, has changed, and I would also be willing to bet that he would not be willing to let anything bad or negative happen to this community that he has been a part of his entire life! We will all have an opportunity to VOTE ON NOVEMBER 2ND for the candidates we feel strongly about! You can sure bet I will be there to place my vote. I hope you will be too, regardless of which candidate you vote for. Whether a candidate preaches ‘most qualified’ or not, I’m thinking the one that has the best interests of the people of this community in mind, as well as their ‘trust’, will probably walk away with the job in the end.

  30. Jim Jensen is lazy and not qualified. But guess what? He wins, because he's the lesser of two evils.

Jim Trihey is morally corrupt and certainly not someone who others will follow and believe in. Look around; true leaders do just that. They lead.

As for Gunderson, get your facts in place and let the lawsuit play out. It's interesting that his evils while wearing the badge somehow negate his accuser(s) drug history, perjury, and bad parenting.

  31. Really Nikole?

Last I knew you were the willing and able "other woman" who engaged in an affair with a married man. You bring up Ann Trihey's past, which is really irrelevant when the issue at hand is YOUR lack of morals.

It seems to me that your consensual and questionable behavior in your workplace did not play out as you had hoped and so now you have issues with the "unprofessional" behavior. This is an environment that your very actions created. As you were betraying your husband and and ruining another woman's marriage, were you concerned with your job of nine years? Only now do you seem to realize your unethical actions may have cost you something--not your jog, but your personal self-worth, you reputation in the community, etc.

For the record, I do not even know the Trihey's, nor do I care to. But I have read up and looked at the facts, and you are responsible for the situation you find yourself in.
